Safety Aspects

Unlike CT and X-ray, MRI does not use ionizing radiation. However, you will not be able to have an MRI if you have any of the following contraindications:

  • Cardiac pacemaker/defibrillator
  • Cranial aneurysm clips
  • Metal in the eyes
  • Cochlear implants
  • Weight is excess of 550lbs.

Additionally, you will need to notify the technologist of any of the following:

  • Tattoos, medication patches or jewelry
  • Spine surgery or any recent surgery
  • Claustrophobia, pregnancy or nursing
  • Renal disease, dialysis or diabetes
