Cancer Program Accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American college of Surgeons
Patients in the Central Texas area deserve access to quality care and Providence Health Center is committed to meeting those needs. In 201, 741 new cancer cases were diagnosed at Providence. Our Health Center offers a community-based cancer program with services that include an inpatient oncology unit, outpatient services, surgical and image guided biopsy and surgical services.
The hospital maintains a cancer registry for state and national reporting. Cancer cases that are diagnosed and/or treated at our hospital or breast center are reported to the Texas Department of Health Services and to the National Cancer Data Base. Reporting these cancer statistics provides information to researchers and physicians for treating patients and determining prognosis.
Providence is certified by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as an approved Community Cancer Program. This certification assures the community that we abide by the high standards set by the ACoS CoC and provide our patients with the best possible care. Education
Providence also provides cancer education to the public, cancer screenings for early detection and resources for treatment and support groups.
General cancer conferences are held monthly and breast specific cancer conferences are held every two weeks. Newly diagnosed cancer cases are presented at the conference with discussion of cancer treatment among medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and other physicians that are involved in the treatment of these patients.

For some cancer patients, a clinical trial might be the right step to take as part of a treatment plan. Your doctor can help you make that decision.
