huitink2

Dr. Scott Huitink loves being a Pediatrician and he strives to support families in the care of their children by encouraging, educating, and providing parents with up-to-date medical expertise. He is thrilled to continue caring for the children of Central Texas as he joins the Providence Pediatric Clinic- Medical Plaza.  With training and experience to provide specialized expertise for the medical needs of all newborns, children, and adolescents, Dr. Huitink especially enjoys the niche areas of pediatric care that include adolescent medicine (acne, sports medicine, pubertal development, behavioral changes, etc.), childhood asthma, children with special needs, and the medical care of international adoptees.

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dr. Huitink left home to attend Wheaton College (Illinois) where he graduated with honors and a Bachelors of Arts in English.  Returning home, he received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas College of Medical Sciences (UAMS) in 2001.  In 2004, he completed his pediatric residency training with the San Antonio Military Medical Center affiliated hospitals (Wilford Hall Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center, Darnall Army Community Hospital, and Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital).  Before finishing residency, Dr. Huitink was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for a unique case presentation involving an international adoptee.

Dr. Huitink arrived in Waco from Heidelberg, Germany, where he practiced medicine as a military pediatrician caring for the children of local servicemembers.  While serving, he completed an extended deployment to Iraq and was responsible for the care of American soldiers, Iraqi civilians and enemy combatants.  He was awarded the Army’s Bronze Star Medal (2007) for service and leadership in the hostile environments of Tal Afar and Ramadi, Iraq.  Since relocating his home to Waco in 2008 and starting a family, Dr. Huitink has established himself as an advocate for the needs of children in Central Texas and has been central in the education and implementation of clinical standards to better identify children with autism and other developmental delays.

Outside of practice, Dr. Huitink and his wife, Rachelle, have been busy with the joys of parenting their two young children. A novice sportsman and an avid sports fan, Dr. Huitink enjoys travel, reading, fishing, and hunting. He is also a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
