Pacemaker and Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators (ICDs) are implanted in individuals with abnormalities to their heart's electrical system. These devices required regular flow-up evaluations to optimize the longevity of the battery, assess appropriate function of the pulse generator and lead(s), identify malfunctions, and to adjust settings so that each individual obtains appropriate and maximum benefits from their implanted device.
Providence's Pacemaker/ICD Clinic, established in 1991, was the first cardiac device clinic in Waco. Our clinic is located on the main floor of the FM & Gloria Young Tower in the Heart Hospital at Providence. The clinic staff provides education and follow-up to patients who have received pacemakers, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs) and implantable loop recording devices. Our physician-directed, nurse managed clinic provides care to over 2,000 patients in the Central Texas area in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Care is provided by Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified nurses with specialized training in implanted cardiac devices.
Patients are referred to the Providence Pacemaker Clinic by the physicians.
