Childbirth Class Information

At Providence Health Center we consider every birth a miracle, and are delighted you have picked us to help you prepare for this wonderful event. To facilitate your birth experience, we have designed several classes ranging from Prepared Childbirth to Breastfeeding Basics. Many couples expressed the need for a class that would work with their busy schedules so we created a special One Day Class with them in mind. Listening to your needs insures that we can give you a great start on your parenting adventure!

4 Week Childbirth Class

This is a four-week series designed to meet the needs of couples having their first baby. The series provides information on health and safety during the last trimester of pregnancy, stages of labor and what to expect with each one, support and comfort techniques, and involvement of the labor partner. Couples will be introduced to information about medications, anesthesia options, Cesarean childbirth, and what to expect after delivery, including routine newborn procedures.

A tour of our beautiful labor and delivery department will be given along with an introduction to monitors and equipment used during the labor and delivery process. You may want to bring a pillow, blanket, or yoga mat for class exercises on the 2nd week of class.

One-Day Childbirth Class

Life can be challenging enough without having to juggle already busy schedules, so we designed this class just for you! Taught are all the same topics in the 4 Week Childbirth series, but in a convenient One Day Class. Class exercises will not be offered in the One Day class due to the condensed format.

Breastfeeding Basics

This is a one-session class focusing on techniques used to initiate successful breastfeeding during the early weeks with your new baby. Husbands or other support persons are welcome to attend with you. This class is free to those registered for Childbirth classes

Infant CPR Class

This informative class teaches parents how to handle infant chocking and perform CPR on an infant. The class has a short video with LOTS of hands on practice. Participants will not receive a CPR card at the end of the class. This is a great class for new parents or experienced parents that are expecting a new baby.

Newborn Care Class

This helpful class for new parents will focus on the care of a newborn infant. A range of topics are discussed such as: new family changes, breast/bottle feeding, infant safety, when to call the doctor, and comfort techniques for a crying newborn. Time is also spent practicing basic care such as swaddling, diapering, and bathing your infant.
