The Endocrinology Clinic and the Diabetes Education Program work in conjunction with one another to meet the needs of our diabetic patients. In one convenient location, an endocrinologist, nutritionists, nurses, and certified diabetes educators work closely with each other – and the primary care provider – to tailor an individualized plan to better manage the patient’s disease.

Anna I. VanderHeiden, MD

Dr. VanderHeiden is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. For the past three years, Dr. VanderHeiden has been a Research Fellow at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. During that time she conducted research that was presented at the 75th Scientific Sessions at the ADA meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. VanderHeiden specialized in management of endocrine disorders including thyroid, diabetes mellitus (including insulin pump therapy), pituitary dysfunction, adrenal, lipid, calcium disorders and osteoporosis. Her experience dates back to her native Ukraine where she practiced as a neurologist. She moved to the United States following her marriage to Kent VanderHeiden, and has been a Texan for 14 years raising two boys. Dr. VanderHeiden and her family are very excited about the move to Waco, where the need for an endocrinologist is high in a great location, no traffic and friendly people. In her spare time she enjoys cooking for family and friends, oil painting, skating, skiing and gardening. Dr. VanderHeiden is fluent in English, Russian, Ukrainian and some Polish.
