At Providence, a special group of physicians called hospitalists, have partnered with the Health Center in pursuing the mission of providing excellent and compassionate patient care. This website explains what hospitalists do and how they can improve a patient's medical care during their stay at the Health Center.

During these times, you may reach our office by dialing (254) 751-4551. If you need to fax information to our offices, the number is (254) 751-4550. What is a hospitalist?
A hospitalist is a physician who has dedicated their practice to caring for patients who are hospitalized. They work closely with you, your family members, your primary physician, specialists and other hospital departments to provide high quality, effective hospital care. Many primary care physicians now utilize the hospitalist service for their patients when hospitalized.
McLennan County Hospitalists Services practitioners are board certified physicians who have years of experience specializing in the care of critically ill, hospitalized patients.
How does the Hospitalist Program work at Providence?
If you are admitted to Providence Health Center your primary or emergency physician may contact our hospitalists to assume responsibility for your care during your stay.
If contacted, the hospitalists will manage your care while you are hospitalized. They will coordinate and consult with your primary care physician and other specialists, closely monitoring your progress, and staying in close touch with you and your family.
McLennan County Hospitalist Services provides hospitalist coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Our hospitalists visit patients throughout the day to monitor progress, review test results and order treatments. Their ready availability within the hospital is one of the major advantages of the program.
How does the Hospitalist Program improve the healthcare given at Providence?
In 2005, McLennan County Hospitalist Services implemented its Hospitalist Program to provide optimal hospital care. Studies show that hospital care is better for patients when provided by physicians specializing in hospital-based care.
By eliminating the need for physicians to move back and forth between the office or clinic and the hospital, the hospitalist program allows your primary physician to devote their full attention to their office practice while providing you with a physician specialized in hospital care when needed.
How does the hospitalist work with the physician?
When a patient is discharged from the hospital, all admission, consults, discharge summaries, laboratory results, and imaging studies are available to your primary physician. At discharge the hospital will also communicate with your clinic physician to review your hospital course and follow-up care plans. This ensures a smooth transition of your care back to your regular clinic doctor.
What happens when a patient leaves the hospital?
Upon a patient's discharge from the hospital, your clinic physician will resume your care. Any questions or concerns after discharge from the hospital should be directed to your clinic physician.
It is the top priority of Providence and the McLennan County Hospitalist Services to respond to your healthcare needs and provide you with the best care possible.
