PROVIDENCE RECEIVES GOLDEN APPLE AWARD

Waco Independent School District held its annual “Partners in Education Celebration of Community – WISD People’s Choice Awards” on May 15, 2003. Partnerships between businesses and schools were honored with a reception, banquet and entertainment.

Providence Health Center and Brook Avenue Elementary received the “Golden Apple Award” for Staff Development for the year 2002-2003. This honor is a result of partnership between Providence Healthcare Network and Brook Avenue to encourage and provide teacher support through seminars and appreciation events.

Jonathan Ford, Vice President of Marketing and Public Policy, visited Brook Avenue Elementary faculty on August 12th to share the FISH Philosophy, which has been incorporated into PHN. Teachers and staff were able to view FISH philosophy and discuss ways that this program would be useful in the classroom environment.

In October of 2002, Providence Health Center Auxiliary, under the direction of Susan Allen, provided a special “Teacher Appreciation Day” at Brook Avenue by providing a luncheon catered by Jason’s Deli for all faculty and gifts for each teacher. On hand to serve were Tyla Oswald, Lois Reasoner, Danielle Devault, and Ralph Bowler. Bi-monthly during the school year, Stacie York at the DePaul Center organized speakers for one- hour seminars for the teachers in order to show support and help teachers cope with classroom and student needs.

A very special thanks to Jonathan Ford, Susan Allen, Auxiliary members, Stacie York and to all who volunteered to make this year a success. The “Golden Apple Award” may be viewed in the Education Department. This award is a tribute to all of those at PHN involved in Partners in Education.
